Why It Works

• Pushing and pulling against resistance gives proprioceptive input — the settling feeling that comes from working muscles — through the whole body, not just the hands.
• It builds real strength at the same time, through the arms, shoulders, trunk and legs.
• One band covers pushing, pulling, shoulder work and core work, so it earns its place in a session bag.

How to use

• Slow and controlled works better than fast and hard. Letting the band back is as much of the exercise as the pull.
• Tied around the front chair legs, it gives a seated child something to push against without leaving the desk.

OT Tip

• Use it before a demanding task rather than during one. Two minutes of pulling buys a longer stretch of sitting afterwards.
