Sensory Compression Lycra Swing – Calming Support

• Two kinds of input at once - movement from the swing, deep pressure from the Lycra pressing on the whole body.
• Compression is what makes it calming. An open platform or disc swing alerts a child; this one settles them.
• It also cuts down what the child can see, which helps when the room itself is the problem.
• Slow, straight-line swinging settles. Spinning stirs up - keep it brief and occasional.
• Let the child get in and out unaided once they can. Being able to leave is part of why it works.
• Machine-washable fabric. Take the hardware off first and let it dry fully before rehanging.

This swing needs a single secure ceiling anchor point, which is not supplied. The anchor must be fixed into structural timber or concrete - never into plasterboard, a suspended ceiling tile or a light fitting. We do not fit anchors, but we are happy to speak to your contractor and tell them exactly what the swing requires.

The supplied hardware and swivel attach the swing to that anchor. Check that every connection is closed and tightened before the first use, and again at the start of each session.

Hang it where there is clear floor all around at full swing arc, with a mat or soft flooring underneath and nothing within reach that a swinging child could strike - no table corners, glass, radiators, shelving or door frames.

• Adult supervision is required at all times. A child must never be left in the swing alone.
• The ceiling anchor is not supplied and must be specified and fitted by a competent person. A suspended setup is only as strong as its weakest component.
• Rated to 90 kg. One child in the swing at a time.
• Never hang from a doorway frame, a tensioned bar, a tree branch or any fitting not rated for a swinging load. Indoor use only.
• Check the fabric, seams, hardware and anchor before every session. Take the swing out of use if you find a tear, a worn seam, a loose fixing or a deformed carabiner.
• Keep clear floor at full swing arc, with soft flooring underneath. No other children within the arc.
• Keep sessions short and child-led. Stop at the first sign of flushing, sweating, yawning, glazed eyes or a sudden change in behaviour - vestibular input builds up quietly.
• Remove loose cords, drawstrings, scarves and necklaces before use.
• Check with a doctor or therapist first for any child with seizures, a shunt, a heart condition, neck or back problems, or a diagnosed vestibular difficulty.
