A soft mat to build letters on. Wood pieces sit still on foam instead of sliding across a table, so a child can place a big line and a little curve without the letter coming apart under their hand.
The foam does not rip when a child pulls at it. Use it with the Capital Letter Wood Pieces and letter cards, or for finger tracing on its own.
Highlights & Tips
- The mat is the page before the page. A child builds the letter with wood pieces on the mat before ever picking up a pencil, so the shape is already familiar when writing starts.
- The corner is the point. Every capital in the programme starts in the same top left corner. Building on a mat teaches that before a pencil can go wrong.
- No-rip foam survives a classroom. Card versions of this do not last a term.
