- A weighted vest should never be more than 10% of the child's body weight.
- Wear time should be short and scheduled, not continuous. Commonly around 20 minutes on, then off — follow your therapist's guidance.
- The child must be able to take the vest off by themselves.
- Never use during sleep.
- Watch for signs of discomfort and remove the vest straight away if you see any — pulling at it, flushed skin, sweating, faster or laboured breathing, restlessness, or a change in mood or behaviour. A child who cannot tell you in words will show you.
- Check the seams and weight pockets regularly.

How do I wash a weighted product?
Remove the weights first where they come out — the vest weight packets lift out and must be taken out before washing. Minky weighted blankets can be machine washed on a gentle cycle and must be air dried; never tumble dry, as heat damages both the bead fill and the fabric. Lap pads, weighted soft toys and bead bags with sealed fill are spot clean only. Check the seams regularly and stop using anything that leaks fill.
