Scissors that spring back open on their own. Opening the blades is the part most struggling children can't manage, and it's what stops them practicing everything else — take it away and they can work on steering, thumb position and following a line.
Squeeze with the whole hand rather than the fingers. The loop is wide enough for an adult to place a hand over the child's and guide the squeeze, then let go a little more each time. Rounded tips, steel blades.
Highlights & Tips
- They spring back open on their own. Opening the blades is the part most struggling children cannot do, and it is what stops them practising everything else. Take that away and a child can work on steering, thumb position and following a line.
- An adult can guide from behind. The loop is wide enough to put your hand over the child's and squeeze together, then let go a little more each time.
- Squeeze with the whole hand, not the fingers. That is the point of the loop design — it recruits the stronger muscles rather than the ones that are struggling.
