Accordion Finger Fidget Toy

Why It Works

• It pushes back. Resistance is what makes a fidget settling rather than simply entertaining, because working muscles give the body proprioceptive input — the calming feeling that comes from effort.
• Each finger works on its own, which builds finger coordination as well as the small hand muscles that pencil control depends on.

How to use

• Pocket-sized, so it goes where the child goes and is there at the moment it is needed.
• Works just as well under a desk, in a car or in a waiting room.

OT Tip

• Agree with the child that it stays below the desk. One simple rule set up front is usually what lets a fidget stay in the classroom all year.
